Stay away from low rent housing projects. Take a tour of the area you are thinking about moving to. If the place has a lot graffiti, trash, and the only window treatments are broken blinds or bed sheets, it's probably a bad idea to move there. Also look around and see what type of people hang around there. If they look shady they probably are. You can also check the crime status of the town you plan on moving to.
You might wants to not move to towns such as Paterson, Newark,Camden, and AC.

There really isn't too many web sites that will tell you really the going on's in a block or two. My best advice though if you can, go to the local fire department and or ambulance service there and ask the actual fireman and or ambulance worker. They will now more about where the problem area's are, and where they feel the safest. Most of the time the fire deparment fireman or EMT workers are best at defining a "safe" neighborhood.

Wow....forget web advice, hang in the neighborhood for a while, day and night....Jersey is best to worst in a matter of blocks...BE CAREFUL !!! Been here a long time....best time to check things out is summer, coz then everyone is out and you can see what's up....
