Mosley is an English name, usually from Southern Lancashire or Yorkshire. There are several places named Mosley in England.
In Old English "mos" means peat bog and "leah" means woodland clearing.. Many names derived from combining Old English words to make names. Like Mos leah, Mosley.
In 1880 42% of Mosley's were farmers. Most of the immigrant Mosleys came from England and Ireland.
I got all this info from reading on Ancestry.com .
