What I mean is, when you talked to that specific person when you where in just a program or class. You don't have them anymore then one day you see them and you smile at them but they don't smile back. It really bothers me when people do these. Is this considered rude?

Even they don't remember you, at least they should smile back.

They probably don't remember you, or remember you but don't exactly know from where. Until they decide you are 'OK', they don't want to give you an "opening" so they don't smile, as they are thinking.

This especially is going to happen if you are a boy and have smiled at a girl. She's deciding if you are worthy of her smile. Don't worry about it. When you have lots of money, they will come looking for you and smiling. LOL

I always smile back if I catch the person smiling at me in a nice way. Sometimes I just don't see it in time though and they have already looked away.

I think it is stingy not to smile back at people. It is rude. Unless lets say it is something to do with something more serious. Someone is giving you unwanted attention (sexually)and is pushy or has crossed the line with you in some way that could be dangerous to you!I smile back at people who have really hurt me. I often smile at people first. Even strangers.

Good manners are not taught to everyone. For me it is an instinctual thing. From the heart! It bothers me too and it makes a poor impressionof who where that person is doesn't it?

Peace!

U B is correct. If a complete stranger smiles at you (lets assume they don't remember you) and you smile back, then that stranger has the opening to start a conversation. If you don't want to allow that, you don't smile back. Its how society is today, people tend to be less polite than our parents generation, I think.

But it goes both ways, both the smiler and the smilee, if you will, are less polite. The smilee is certainly rude for not reciprocating, but its based on experience that the smiler probably wants something. See what I mean?
