OH MY GOD! That is TERRIBLE! I suspect that he might have gotten a better offer from another bride/groom. i.e. the other wedding had more guests and the location could stand to make more money off of them. This is horrible and completely irresponsible.

3.5 weeks before our wedding, this bastard DJ cancelled on us, and then 2 weeks before, my hair dresser cancelled so I feel your pain.

I think you should find another location to do your wedding because I don't think you're going to get your location back. I also think that you should get on some wedding message boards that service your home area and let EVERYONE know what happened to you. Brides don't want to deal with crap like that- and bad word of mouth can really do serious damage to a wedding vendor.

Terribly sorry that I couldn't find a reference in Emily Post, but it does seem appropriate that as many people as possible hear about this. Is media coverage considered slanderous if it's true? Can or will these people offer any other options to you (I know it's not the same, but using potential 'bad press' as a lever, perhaps you can work out something. Does she only have one dream location? Why did the other couple get it and you didn't? How long have they known this before telling you?

Addendum: There are a lot of disappointments in life. I'm sorry that this one involves a dream location that can never be recovered since is a once-in-a-lifetime event (we hope). But, when one dream gets screwed up, sometimes we just have to dream new dreams. What about future vow renewals? Is this something that you could plan for down the line at this location (obviously using a different agent)? There's absolutely nothing like a dream wedding in a dream location, but it's ultimately the life that follows that day that really counts. And truly that's what vow renewals are - a celebration of love over time with the desire to continue loving over time.
OK, so maybe that's too far in the future. Is there someway else you two can celebrate your love in this location? (or any other for that matter) Perhaps that's the real beauty of not marrying there - the fact that your love is the true celebration - wherever you are. . .

Well it might get you arrested. But what you need to find out is if yours was booked first cause if it was then the location is yours. But even then the person that double booked the location should be the one finding you a different local since there is no reason that it should have been double booked.

my little brothers say it is proper to do so...
but they like arguing :P

The reception place must make this up to you - either by giving you another location equal in value or giving you all money back. Try talking to the other people - if they're just haing a company party maybe they'll change locations. try to work on their morals feelings :)
I'm sorry this happened try to work it out. God bless!

I dont blame you for being angry! Well, you have two choices...Book her dream location for another date, making sure all the vendors you have already hired can accomodate it, or search for another location. If you choose the latter, I'd do it as soon as humanly possible, or you may find everything in your area already booked up. Good luck.

You need to find out whose wedding was booked first. If yours, then the site should be yours. The guy should not only return your money but he should be the one to find you another location ASAP

ahhhh! I can't believ that!
He definitely has a legal obligation to pay you some money and redress the issue. He needs to pay for your costs of printing invites again and either give you the venue on a different day or the same day at a different time.
Who is this guy - make him known to everyone so we don't deal with him!

Good luck with it all...I am totally shocked!

No, not the place I come from - Scotland - its not because of fact we are advise - this is a standing humorous tale, yet flower delivery men listed under are actually not between the known "trades" to tip - like - posties at Christmas, and waitresses and so on. yet once you sense beneficiant while your eye-catching plant existence arrive, not something to end you - i might probably do it myself.
