im wondering if it would harm the amp if i hooked up 2 800w sony xplod speakers to a 1600w mono amp. have any of you experimentd with this. the amo only operates at full wattage at 2 ohms so if i hook up 2, 4 ohm speakers to the amp it should drop the amp to 2 ohms. so how could it hurt it?

if the amp is made to work at 2 ohm or 1 ohm yes it is ok
2 4 ohms speaker will be 2 ohms load to the amplifier
now if the speakers are dual 4 ohms that menad the amplifier will see a load of 1 ohm
don't go under the specs of the amplifier or it will burn

That is exactly what mono amps are designed for. Many mono amps have 2 sets of outputs, just to make it easier to wire up 2 speakers. As long as you don't go below the minimum impedance, you can wire as many speakers as you want to the amplifier (keeping in mind that the power will be split among all the speakers).

ok, so your amp relatively in basic terms places out approximately 200 rms...and the subs in basic terms approximately one hundred rms. i comprehend its stupid yet thats the way motor vehicle audio corporation's do it. i think of that u could be extra effective finding for a 4 chan amp interior the selection of six hundred watts. this might supply u around(counting on the amp) 50 rmsX4@4 ohms. i think of u might desire to get a 4 chan and twine it right down to 2ohms and this might supply u like 100rmsX4@2ohm. then adjust the income decrease to the front so u dont blow the audio gadget. bridge the the rest 2 channels and run them kinda like a mono block-directly to the subs. attempt to commerce somebody your previous amp or sell it.

its ok as long as you respect the load impedance value usually marked on the back of the amp or in the owners manual.
