Some of the information (above) is incorrect. Actually, American Express offers credit cards-- as well as charge cards.

Mastercard is definitely accepted at more locations than American Express. But AMEX offers some excellent reward options. You'll have to weigh which is more important-- wider range of acceptance-- or better rewards?

You can compare lots of different choices here:

Hope this helps. GOOD LUCK!

American Express is a charge card. Mastercard is a credit card.

With American Express, they don't have a set credit limit, but they expect you to pay off your entire balance every 30 days.

With Mastercard, they think it is wonderful for you to have a balance and make minimum payments on it forever, since that is how they make their money.

Mastercard is accepted in more places. It's usually a better choice.

The above is correct.
The big difference is American Express has no limit. If you have a balance on your Mastercard and go on a trip and charge large expenses, such as airline, hotel, etc you could bang against your credit limit and have a problem..

The American Express card is more of a travel and entertainment card.
Their income requirements are higher, and it is harder to get one.
