Legal immigrants are welcome and many have a lot to offer the US. Illegal immigrants hurt the US, they have no respect for our laws (if they did they would immigrate legally) or the people of this country.

I think immigrants help the US. Immigration to the United States of America is the movement of non-residents to the United States, and has been a major source of population growth and cultural change throughout much of the American history even though the foreign born have never been more than 16% of the population since about 1675. The economic, social and political aspects of immigration have caused controversy regarding race, ethnicity, religion, economic benefits, job growth, settlement patterns, impact on upward social mobility, levels of criminality, nationalities, political loyalties, moral values, and work habits.

When they come in a limited number we can absorb without overcrowding schools, and are selected because of their benefit to our country, or at least their ability not to put thier children on food stamps, they are good. That is what immigration laws are about. Ours are too generous to distant family other than spouse and minor children however. This puts it in the decision of the foreign relatives whether they want to come and the ones who most want to come are the ones who WOULD use our services, etc.

Plus those who come illegally are completely above limits to protect our schools and our own children's education, at a time when globalization says education is our children's future. We pay for their education, since they are too poor to pay meaningful taxes if they even pay taxes, and our children's schools are failing. Similarly hospitals are closing and our social services our own poor and elderly need are being drained. This excess allotment hurts us badly. Employers get cheap labor but we subsidize that wage with social services like food stamps and aid to families with dependant children once the illegals have children here.

That is another law every EU country and Canada have gotten rid of - birthright citizenship. We need to make it so only children of citizens or permanent residents become citizens by being born here. That is totally abused, right now. $400,000,000 was spent by California for health care for illegals last year and most of that was birth related. Then the child is eligable for food stamps and the FAMILY is eligible for aid. Also, the family becomes much harder to deport because of the 'citizen' child.

We have long had a legal fiction that until ADMITTED to the country under legal process, a person is outside it. That is often cited in cases regarding the rights or lack of rights of a person at a border entry point, even if that entry point technically is inside the US. Shouldn't that apply to whether the birth is within the country, as well? Whatever, going forward, the birthright citizenship law should be changed.

There is no short answer to this one...I feel immigrants will help the U.S. "if" they become citizens as they are supposed to do.....Granted, illegal immigrants do jobs that many, if not all, citizens would not do...However, businesses take advantage of the situation and pay much lower wages than they would if citizens did the same work...the worst thing in my mind, is the strain it puts on the various government entities...They dont pay for health care...dont pay taxes...overcrowd the schools..dont learn our language (and why should they since we are providing almost everything in two languages or more)...Finally, too many of the illegal immigrants show no respect for this country. They are here to earn money, have kids (they become citizens automatically if born here..never did understand that one) and take advantage of our genorosity.

I am hoping you get an answer from a LEGAL immigrant or one that is trying to become one...

They hurt us in ways you might not realize.
Illegals stay under the radar which means they take part in no civic duties that do not benefit them. They do not pay taxes, they do not pay into social security, they do not register for selective services. They do however, recieve charitable healthcare, welfare benefits, attend public schools, consumed government subsidised food, can live in gov't sub. housing; all at the cost of citizens who's family members worked hard and even suffered to become legal citizens.
Many illegals do not put forth the effort to learn english, causing communication breakdown.
Because of the poverty surrounding most illegals, crime is a major negative factor. Because many illegals avoid healthcare, they can bring diseases into our population that otherwise would be taken care of at in-processing if they came here legally.
The first thing they did when they came to this country was broke the law.

Legal immigration helps, but illegal aliens hurt. This country ( the U. S. A. ) was founded on immigration, but it was legal immigration, they were very happy to be here, happy to call this home, happy and wanted to be called Americans. But the illegal aliens, the last thing they want is to be Americans, nor do they want to be called Americans.

Both. They benefit in the short term but in the long term i don't really know how it is going to fare out. The hidden cost of health expenses as the now working population gets to retirement will be immense and would be a drag to the economy.

First, there is a difference between legal immigrants and illegal aliens even though the liberals want to label them one and the same. Legal immigrants are welcome in America. Illegal immigrants should be immediately deported. We can benefit from immigrants who respect our country enough to follow its laws. From the get go, illegals are breaking the law and we are sooooooooooooo politically correct that we feed, house, employ, educate and excuse them from their crimes.

I don't think you can make a blanket statement either way. Immigrants that come in and work help the economy to grow and make us all wealthier. Immigrants and come in and suck up socialist services and don't work are a drag on the economy and make us all poorer.
