Well first, I've never heard that once a girl is a certain age that she is referred to as a miniature bride. But, I have heard of a miniature bride before. the m/b can walk down the aisle with the flower girl or after the flower girl. She normally wears a small version of the brides dress, but in some cases so does the flower girl. And about a miniature groom, if your going to have the m/b walk with the flower girl, no. But if she's walking after the f/g, yeah you might want a m/g to walk with her. Now, for what I think about it. I'm getting married in sept. I'm only having one flower girl and one ring bearer. My flower girl with be almost 9 by then and I'm still calling her my flower girl. She is wearing a dress very similar to mine with a ribbon around her waist that is the color of the bridesmaids dresses. I don't think that you have to call her a miniature bride if you don't want to. She can walk with the flower girl and throw petals on the floor and be dressed just like the other flower girl. Or if your wanting to make her mother happy. Let her walk after the flower girl with a m/g and carry her own little bouquet. It's all about what you want. None of your guest will know any different. Good Luck!

I did a search and couldn't find anything about the origin of this tradition. I never heard of it either until coming on Yahoo Answers. Hopefully someone who had a miniature bride and groom can shed some light on this. EDIT: And if you think about it, aren't the flower girl and ring bearer already dressed like a miniature bride and groom?

I am a guy originally from New York. I lived in Georgia for 20 years as well. I never heard of a miniature bride until I married a Mississippi woman. I asked my wife about it and she believes that it is a custom from the earlier days in the south. So to sum it up, in my opinion, it is a stupid way to get some poor family to spend more money then they need to in order to make some little girl feel she ranks above all the other girls in the wedding. The key word here is STUPID!!!!

RE:
What IS a miniature Bride?
My fiance and I asked his neice to be one of the flower girls in our wedding. Her mother informed us that at his nieces age (10) she is refered to as a Miniature Bride. All I want is for her to walk down with our other flower girl and throw petals on the floor. Maybe I was mistaken by asking her...

A miniture bride is a child from about 6-10 years old that normally wears a dress that normally looks identical to the dress the bride wears. She usually comes out prior to the bride and if you want a miniture groom you can have one and he is normally bout the same age. But a flower girl can be about 10 years old as well, it all depends on how old you'd like the child to be. But there is nothing wrong with having either one or both in the wedding.
There is nothing wrong with asking someone that is older to be a flowergirl.

They are dressed like miniture brides, something I personally don't care for. But then, that's me. They don't really do anything but walk the aisle, at least in the weddings I've seen them in.
They aren't flowergirls nor are they jr bridesmaids; they're mini brides.
Since she is 10 & apparently Mom doesn't want her to feel like a child, even though she is, maybe you could have her walk the aisle alone after the other littler girls have walked throwing petals.
She could have a different color petals to drop to announce the arrival of the bride. Just don't hype her role any more.

Mini Brides are basically a flower girl. However since the niece is 10 you could just refer to her as a Jr. Bridesmaid.

I have NEVER heard of a miniture BRIDE! I have a JUNIOR BRIDESMAID. And a flower girl. I also had my sister in law argue that her son (10) was too young to be a ring bearer. It's your wedding. Not theirs. Titles are up to your descretion! Do as you please. Don't dwell on the title and enjoy your wedding with the ones you love!
