How many times does a speed camera flash. Im paranoid that I didnt see one and i think the lights made a tiny flash when I went by rather than the camera. The cameras flash are really strong and i think the flash 2 or 3 or maybe 4 times. It was at night and Im sure I would have seen the bright flash more than once and seen the lines ect...
Please advise.

Gatso cameras flash twice. The other types of speed camera don't flash at all, so it depends which one you passed. The new ones (the thin ones on tall posts) don't even have film in them. They use computers to recognize the registration number and send the fine off automatically (it could be in the post before you get home)

Speed Camera Flashed Twice

it does flash twice. but afew diff things to consider. Your cars speedo will be at least 1 or 2 mph out ( it will say your doing 30 and your doing 28). also alot of cameras either have no film, dont work, or are actually pointing at a diff direction then you think. Also for alot of the uk there is a limit within a limit for speeding tickets. Where i live is 10% plus 2mph, so in a 30 you would have to be 36 for the camera to get you.

Also if you do get a ticket ask them for a photo of the camera lines to prove you were speeding - known afew ppl when asking for these they havnt been able to provide them so case went dead

none if you are driving at the posted speed or below for that road.
however a typical speed camera is designed to take two pictures. these as others have said are about a second or so apart. also when approaching a speed camera (live and the static dead ones) you will often see the road markings (parallel lines left to right on the road) as long as you slow down to the posted speed limit before you hit those markings and only speed up again (assuming you wish to risk a mobile speed trap) when you see the road markings in your mirror. you should be ticket and fine free.

I'm no expert here, i'm a pedestrian not a driver. i only know what i know from what i have read.

so good luck and remember the posted speeds are there not for your benefit or to annoy you, they are to advise you of a safe speed for that road under normal conditions. remembering that not everyone using that road (depending on it's type and location) will be a driver. there are a lot of pedestrians who may have to use the same roads as you, especially in rural villages with little or no foot paths and with no form of formal crossing control for the pedestrians to stick to. so when driving keep in mind where you are and the road conditions and think (i'm thinking here of the villages affected by the GPS systems and the route to my local airport where the high volume of traffic was recently reported on the news as intollerable. remember not everyone who is a pedestrian is fit an able bodied (walking does not mean that someone can run easily if at all) and able to run out of the way if a car comes speeding at them (speaking here as a pedestrian who can no longer run. I have two speeds forward and dead stop). besides pedestrians remember too the elderly who may be in the battery powered invalid carriages as well as the mothers with kids who may run out without warning if the break loose from their mothers grip.

sorry to rant, but being butchered by surgeons makes you more aware of how dangerous some drivers who exceed the posted speed limit can be.
I'm all for speed cameras in towns, rural villages and on town city streets / roads and approaching accident black spots. for the reasons i listed above.

I'm against speed cameras on dual carriageways and on motorways because no pedestrians etc, are likely to be on that road, and often it is safer to travel at a speed suitable to the road conditions not as slow or fast as the posted sign displays (that said where road works are indicated you should slow down to the limit posted to allow you and your car time to safely clear any construction depris or worker that may get on to the carriageway). Cars are safer now than they have ever been, brakes have improved as have the survivability stats of the occupants in the car.
speed cameras on motorways in my opinion are just a money making scheme by the government. asa at least 90% of drivers on a motorway exceed the legal limits, mainly because it is often a lot safer to drive like that than at a slower speed.

They flash twice. Then the two pictures are timed. From this can be worked out how fast you are going,

Two times, its roughly 1 second between the two flashes.

Hi there

Lots of them don't have any film in them anyway but if you have been caught you will receive your fine within the next seven days. The latest craze is the mobile camera! you don't even see the policeman he just sits in his car with the boot open.

wouldnt worry too much - hardly any film in them - thats if it was a gatso camera.

go back there at same time you were and watch it for while, may be on the blink.

if in doubt burn it.
