If your brother in law's liver is shutting down the only thing that can save his life is a liver transplant. He should be put on the transplant list immediately. I know what you are going through. My son's liver was diseased and he was put on the transplant list. I had everyone I knew praying for him to get the transplant and our prayers were answered. He would not have lived for another month when the transplant came. That was 6 yrs ago and he's doing fine. Talk to his doctor about the transplant list. It may be too late for him The doctor should be able to know more about his condition.

yes he can die if his liver shuts down. There is no 'help' (like an artificial liver..).
You can't see him because if you carry a virus or something to him, he will die...they're trying to keep him as well as possible till they can get an implant for him. (thats why everyone needs to fill out donor cards...and make sure your family KNOWS you want to donate organs, should you not need them anymore...)
so sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. [[[ ]]]
Hope he gets that transplant and everything goes well for him.

You did not mention what is wrong with him. Yes if some body is willing to donate part of his liver to your brother in law may he has a chance. The donors liver will grow back.
