Lawyers have to go to college and law school! Lawyers and PI do two different things. It's like saying why go to school to be a teacher, when any student that got an A can teach the class.

Another reason not to be a lawyer is that only one out of 10 people who graduate from a law school in the US will ever practice law now that there are too many people in the profession. Why do you think that everyone in their mother in the business will do a personal injury case?

They are completely different jobs. Plus I might say a lawyer typically deals with more clients and is a more high profile job. Plus there is a greater opportunity of advancement in that field, I even know somebody who went on to international courts and makes $1000's an hour. You might even become the attorney defending the next O.J. Simpson (that lawyer got paid like 3 grand an hour).

A lawyer deals with the law whereas a private investigator tries to go around it. A PI will do anything he can to get his information at a price. A lawyer is sworn to follow the law, defend and prosecute criminals. I think it's more about who is more ethical.

They are providing different services. It's like asking why become a lawyer when you could make as much being a psychologist or a plumber.
Attorneys provide legal advice, and represent clients in legal matters. Non-attorneys cannot, under most state/country laws.
