You are showing your age, too young to remember a pie chest.
Where I came from we called them a pie safe. Which was a place to put your pies to keep them safe from the flies. You see (or at used to see) the same thing in dinners were the pies were in a stacked glass case where you picked out the piece you wanted.

It may have been a pie chest at one time. Pie chests were usually ventilated with screening or some sort of pattern of holes in the doors. Inside there were shelves that you would put a warm pie on. The doors were then shut and the ventilation allowed the pes to cool safely away from little hands, animals and large flying insects.

I have never seen one with drawers. Hold out for a real hoosier, in good condition. I haven't seen too many lately.

The original name was a "Pie Safe". Where now there is glass they used to use perforated tin, usually the tin was perforated with little holes in some kind of decorative design.

The purpose of the "Safe" was to store pies, cakes, bread, etc. in a place where flies and other pest could not get to the food. This was before refrigeration. It also served as a place to keep cutlery and other kitchen items.

Prior to refrigeration baked goods (pies) were kept in the glass top.
