I have a maltese and he is wonderful inside and outside. He is also the most friendly dog I have ever had. He is very outgoing, loves to play, is very loving, and great with anyone he meets! Maltese do not shed! They do however require a lot of grooming, brushing daily or every other day at the least.

I had a Maltese Pomeranian mix for years, and found it to be our best dog. I really miss that dog and found the dog to be accommodating in more ways then one. Of coarse the dog had long hair and later in life the dog had some medical problem, but the dog lived to be 17 yrs old. Oh, the dog did live indoors

Most dogs are good inside dogs if it is trained to be inside. However Maltese shed a lot and need to be brushed.

Better inside than outside. Inside they are easier to keep clean and healthy.
Outside.....you have to worry alot with the length of their hair. Matting tends to be a problem and can lead to some serious situations if not constantly maintained.

My hubby's parents have had 2, they have been great inside dogs, they don't shed but do require grooming. I have 4 year old son and they have been great with him. Very loving, playful and energetic...... I have a bichon frise and so far he's great inside and with my son.
