Why do so many monotheists consider God to be perfect?
This is a serious question
I haven't come across a great deal of evidence for this anywhere. Even the Bible seems to contain a great deal of evidence to the contrary; and of course there are the famous logical problems (if God can do anything, can he create something so big he can't lift it? etc)
Why not a God who's pretty impressive, and far surpasses anything a human being could ever be, but who's not necessarily perfect?
Is it merely because that would entail that another being could exist who was even greater?

Now, I feel I should make clear that if everything I see were created by this one being, that _would be_ pretty impressive. It's this perfection thing I have trouble with. This idea that God is necessarily not only good, or much better, but the best there could possibly be - the best that is even conceivable.
The basis for such a belief seems scant.
And it's not clear to me at all that creation (if indeed it was created) is as good as it could be. OK, we don't exactly have anything to compare it with - but that cuts both ways. What makes us think it's so good when it's all we know?
And I'm certainly not impressed by this "he just is" attitude. Do you people never think about or question anything?

The more I study religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself.

The conception of God as a perfect being is man's undoing. Through worshiping such deities man doesn't look deep into himself to find that which is inherently true. There is no creation without the spirit that lives within a man or another living entity that comprehends his own existence.
The idea of God reminds me of an abusive parent. I beat you because I love you! If you as puny little man don't love me I will beat you more. It seems to me God needs man to exist not the other way around. Let me give you a little hint: Love exist in you not in a entity you have no relationship but in your own imagination. You are sold this lie through indoctrination before you understand anything else. The should be your first clue of your loss of choice.
The God paradigm is poison because it take away man's focus of what he really is. The source of creation not the one created. I don't expect the religious to fathom this because you are taught the opposite which is the big distortion.
I speak absolute truth and one day you will come to know it as I have. If not in this lifetime it will be in another.

As a Muslim I believe that God is all-knowing, therefore since God knows everything how can God make a mistake unless God is doing that on purpose which in turn makes God evil and that goes against my belief. Of course what he perceive of something which maybe a mistake of God is not a mistake in Gods book, there has to be a reason behind it which we don't understand.

Lord God is divine entity that is the creator of all things. Surely, even if you don't like the world we have made, you can respect his divinity in achieving such an amazing feat? the world he gave us was perfect. Unfortuanatley he gave us the great gift of free will too - It is us that is messing it up!

is man perfect? why not, we're created in God's image. is god perfect? let me settle this once and for all. no. tell me one thing on this planet that is. The Creator is all encompassing. you cannot compare his abilities to those of man. and do you want there to be a Entity greater that the Creator? Because the Creator made all that there is. If you write a book strickly from the Fantasies of your own mind, are there writers greater than you? of course. but in your own little world you are the greatest. God is what you want it to be. However, belief in the Creator and respecting what he created for us is something few of us still have. ..........peace

Well, if we are made in the image of God, then maybe He isn't perfect, just like us, but He is better able to control Himself, unlike us.
Though I like to think of God as perfect, because that means Heaven must be one great place.

So christians have someone to look up to and follow because they can't make their own mind up about which is the right way to live.
Sad really. If there really is only one life then why the hell be burdoned with guilt about living it? Bit of a waste if you ask me.

Because He is perfect.
Paradoxes are the result of the limited human mind and vocabulary and ability. For instance, The unstoppable force and the immovable object, what happens when they strike. They do not exist in the physical world, therefore the paradox is moot. God however is both.

Yes, god can create something so big he cant lift it, but why would he!!!! God is perfect! In order for you to believe in christianity, or anyother religion, you have to have FAITH! No matter what you believe, I'm not the person to judge you, or tell you that you're wrong! May god bless you and yours!

Very good question and a couple of good facts, too.
Why did they all drop the goddesses in favour of gods?
And why do they always just tell one bloke who then has to go through hell (ha ha) to tell everyone else?
