The parent-child relationship changes over time from being told what to do to helping your parents grow old. Honoring them should have Biblical examples, and always show the unconditional love of Christ.
For me, my parents are in their late 60's. I am not co-located. I am married. There are things that they do (and do not do) that bother me. Still I have learned to love them, even after a rough time where I really felt the love had gone. I do not always do what they want...I left them and started my own family -- I must take care of them. Still, honoring my parents means a different kind of love. It is a love from God. I call them often to make sure they have what they need. I make time to go home a couple times a year. If they need help of any kind - money, medical, etc. - I will make sure they have what they need -- even at my own sacrifice. These actions demonstrate my honor and respect for my parents - regardless of whether they love or respect me. One of these days I bet they will need assistance or skilled nursing -- I will not only ensure this, but check up on it. Too many children pay others to love their parents and hardly ever see them. Often times the care is less than what is being paid for. You need to visit...and often...or move your needy parents close to you.
We will all give an accounting for our actions - or lack thereof - and I will stand in love.

Honoring, IMHO, means showing respect for your parents.

Even if you don't like their religion or their politics or the way they pressure you to find a partner.

It means acknowledging that they're the people who brought you into this world, and respecting that.

It means understanding the gift of life they gave you is precious, whatever your religious belief (or lack thereof).

It means conducting that life in such a way that your actions reflect well on your parents (i.e., being a good person).

It does NOT mean unquestioning obedience to everything they say. You may very well disagree with them, but it is possible to disagree with love and respect.

You should be VERY careful with how you go against something your parents tell you. If you feel it is an issue that you disagree with them on, WATCH YOUR ATTITUDE and go to them and appeal to them in a gracious manner. You will not get anywhere with a sassy or bad attitude towards them because then that IS dishonoring them and you will be seen as a rebelious person in their eyes

Parents are to teach respect and to be respectful of their children also. How can one give respect when one has not been raised up with it?
We haven't seen a lot of that in the last 5 or 6 decades. No wonder the world is wicked.
I am not saying you are, it is just difficult to answer your question without knowing what exactly it is that your parents told you to do.

I think you should give them the respect due them because of the age, wisdom and knowledge that they have.

You were reared to think for yourself by your parents so I don't think it would be dishonoring to disagree. Everyone has to make their own way.

I do think the way or attitude that you approach them when you have a disagree with them should be done in a respectful way.

Honoring your parents means loving them, obeying them (as long as they don't tell you to do something unbiblical), and behaving in such a way that would not bring dishonor or shame to them when they are not around.

My definition of honoring your parents is to be the best son or daughter, and the best person that you know how to be. Also, give credit to your parents for what they have done for you in your life.

Sometimes, when parents expect you to do things that you feel to be wrong, it is honoring them to do what you feel is right.

This does not mean to rebel against them, but to follow your conscience.

It means to respect their decision and their authority over you. Treat them as good as you would treat someone or something you value. Like Gold. Remember that may people wish they had parents. If you have one, cherish the opportunity.
