If the card has a fee attached to it then, no you would not be charged this fee unless you activate the card. I know this because I work for a credit card company. The activation process is set up for (2) reasons

1. Security - helps prevent identity theft.
2. Acceptance - provides an easy way (redundancy) to track your acceptance to all terms and conditions that go with the card aside from your signature on the application.

I have several credit cards and I have never paid to have my card activated. All activation does is allow you to be able to use the card after you have verified that it was You and not someone else that received it. All of my cards were activated by calling the Company from my home phone number. If you have not charged anything on the card and it doesn't carry an annual fee, then nothing is charged to you until you swipe that card for a purchase. I suggest that you read your agreement and see just what you HAVE agreed to.

You should call them up and find out what kind of rules they play by and if you feel they don't play fair have a third party call them up who knows personal finances well someone you pay to do business for you like a financier or a credit consultant or credit adviser

nope...you only get the fee when you activate. Sounds like you got one of those cards that give you a 300$ limit but charge you 225$ to get it

It depends on the contract. I recommend you close it and use cash. Credit cards are the worst way to try to build up credit.

THEY CHARGE A PROCESSING FEE?!?! Wow, that's nuts... and sounds rather shady. What did your terms (fine print) say?

See if you can get a card with better terms... I'd hate to see what your APR is.

No. All it is at this time is a piece of plastic. As soon as you activate it, then you'll be charged.
