Navel piercings take at least 6 months to heal on average, for some people that time is a bit shorter for others it can be up to a year.

It is never suggested to change the jewelry sooner than 4 months but its always encouraged to wait as long as possible. Changing the jewelry to soon can tear the piercing, causing rejection, migration or infection. You need to be sure the piercing is fully healed (no signs of irritation, pussing or bleeding, no pain or discomfort). If you aren't sure if its healed, wait another month or have piercer change the jewelry for you.

If it's not red and it's not pussing then go ahead and change it. It's so easy to change you shouldn't have any difficulty getting it in. Just make sure you're not allergic to any materials, if you don't know then go with whatever material you originally had when you got it pierced. Also, make sure you clean the jewelery and you button before and after.

you usually only have to wait about 6 weeks. after that, as long as it doesn't look icky you can go for it.
