Demonic possession? Real or Hollywood fantasy??

I would like to think all the "true" stories of possession by the devil are just mental illness or drug abuse effects. It's true most of the real life accounts are from many years ago before doctors knew about the brain and mental illness. Some do believe in this however, do you??????

In my experience, there is a definite difference between the mentally unstable and someone who has been indwelt by a demon. That being said, mental stability can deteriorate after a time of being indwelt....
I've experienced it in some of the contacts I 've had. And really - was Hitler mentally unstable to begin with? Was Stalin? These were men who were geniuses of their time and look where they trod? What about Sadaam Hussien? Pol Pot, etc etc

yes there is possession and demons in the world today. And no there is not one behind every bush. Drug addiction and alcoholism , bipolar ,anorexia ,bulimia,etc are all in my opinion demon related. Demons don't openly manifest themselves like they used to. Scripture says "beware the demon rum". Is it then such a stretch that it means exactly that?. A demon/. A demon of addiction.? When some apostles came back to Jesus and told Him of certain demons the could not cast out. He told them that there are demon that required special prayer to get out. Now i was into the bottle for a number of years. tried AA it didn't work. Finally i said the rosary and i have not even been tempted. Don't have the urge . Don't miss it. Now then, could it possibly be that these prayers were a hint to us now that the rosary is those prayers. I ask is that such a stretch? You ask then how does medication work on SOME of the problems. Well although they are spiritual beings that doesn't mean that the drugs are not affecting the demon also. But drugs in my opinion are a remedy not a cure . For me my cure was prayer.

If it was mental illness I can't see a team of exorcists doing anything to improve things with incantations. There are reports of demonic possession going back thousands of years. Exorcists are specially trained people and can not perform an exorcism until given the go ahead by the pope himself.

interesting, it is not a total posession, rather an unusual mental state (not deliberate or faked, but a true phenemon). the child does not know either way, but it is a psychiatric condition manifest in many ways. we do not actually know the first thing about the power of energy, it is more powerful and unusual than we will ever know in our life times. just sit back and and say 'that is extrordinary, i can't possibly know . anything about the universe'.

this is the only 'sensible' answer.

This is what I've heard .. I've only really seen demonic grimaces of the "Bob" of Twin Peaks variety myself, at times when I've been unusually close to God, and that seems to bring something nasty inside people out into their external behaviour.

Apparently christians who fast a lot often get involved in deliverance ministry. That is because the fasting somehow increases a person's ability to move in faith, and it would appear that demons get scared when people with great faith are around, as they can get expelled easily. So these people with fasted lifestyles enter rooms, and the reality of the demonic realm is manifested. Demons manifest. So they have to deal with the demon issue as an aspect of their faith.

real, I'm a demon possessed Christian. No one has the gift of casting out spirits(distinguishing spirits) well I'm still searching. so if no one can see the spirit, all they do is cast Jesus on the flesh, I get whipped to the floor, and scream at church, but does not leave. I use to go to the alter for mental illness. Nothing happened, binding of a evil spirit, my head and body fo nuts. I Got it through Marijuana( witch I'm scared to ever do again) so it real. I ask God when it will be over, he says its in my time. Through all this suffering my faith has skyrocket.

The Devil, Satan, or any other "evil" and "sinful" entity does not exist. Possessions are done by poltergeists. Poltergeists are a type of ghosts that can manipulate from their plane into this plane; they're just dead people looking for a little fun.

Hollywood fantasy, definately.
If I was to find out about an "Emily Rose" sort of case I'd probably report it to the police, so that they could be arrested for abuse/assault/battery.

maybe, it could happen. i see stuff on tv, where people are possessed by demons and a holy man aids them and they are fine, but u never know when a person is feigning or not.

I think it is possible... there is spiritual warfare and a reality that we can not see... thus it is very possible that there are people who are daemon possessed.
