A US passport costs $97 plus about $15 for photos.
It doesn't cost anything extra to go to Italy. Go to your local post office for application. You will need your birth certificate, 2 passport photos and check. It's taking about 10 to 12 weeks to get a USA passport due to new requirements this year, traveling to the Caribbean and Mexico.

Good Luck

A U.S. passport is good for any country that admits visitors without a visa. Italy does not require a visa. A passport costs about $80 as I remember, and nowdays takes 2-3 months to get--but I think you can get it faster by paying an extra fee. Google U.S. passports

Wait, let me get this straight. You want to go to Italy? Why? Are you planning on perping on little Italian boys and girls? Well, let me tell you this: Watch it, because if you perp on my little Italian boy or girl, I'll make sure you go to jail.
