Yes, you can. How much depends on what car, the year, and where you live. But beware! Junkyards part cars out! Unless you're looking for a "classic", my advice is to buy from an individual or carlot. Check your newspaper listings. If you're looking for a hard to find car, check your local bodyshops! And don't forget to get a title!!!!!

Mostly cars in the junkyard are sold in parts. The junk yard makes more money that way. You probably could negotiate, be careful and make sure that the car was not considered totaled by the insurance company. Sometimes the frame is bend and you can't know it by just looking at it. You take your life in your hands, it would be better if you purchased an old car from an add in the paper, where you could check its history and then customize it etc.

Yes, you can. The cost would depend on the junk yard, and the specifics about the car. If you don't know exactly what you want, but know a price range, you can call and ask if they have anything in that range.

Sure you can! And often (but not always) at a very fair price. Talk to a bunch of junkyards, tell them what you're looking for, what you're willing to pay etc.

You could also find out where they get their cars, go to police auctions and compete with them to acquire the car... and then sell them the parts you don't want.

You might also find your local electric-vehicle enthusiasts and find out where they find suitable used cars for electric-vehicle conversions.
