The tools are not too expensive, go to your automotive sound supplier, and see if they carry it. At the very least, they can recommend, or in rare cases, offer to pop the stereo for you if you bring the vehicle in.

If its a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury any auto part store should carry the tools and they are like $5-10. Little U shaped Wires.
I used these to take the head unit out of a 1996 Taurus, if you are creative you can make a set from a wire coat hanger but they are not as good as the real deal because the homemade ones lack slits cut in them to grasp the little brackets holding the head unit in the dash.
