Why not your back, or arms?

It's similar to when they lick the faces of other dogs. This is most commonly seen when puppies meet older dogs. It means, I'm little, you're big, I like you, don't hurt me.
BUT it also becomes a behavior heavily rewarded by attention.
AND I have had dogs that would lick whatever was near. Clothes, hair, feet, didn't matter.
But really, I think if you asked a dog, he would say, "Why not?"

Dogs lick peoples faces because of the salt that we give off.Our backs and arms do not carry the same amount of salt that we have..So they do not lick our weak body parts

Because dogs are aliens from the planet deeedsee and the have implanted micro TNT in their tongues so after they lick your skin the TNT attaches to your skin and when their whole race comes to earth on the year 2025 they will be able to make us surrender or they will detonate all our faces with a remote device. My dog licks my hands and arms also. I think it is because you are putting your face in front of them and talking to them and they just lick what is in front of them.

Because in the wild, wolves will lick the alpha female and alpha male. They usually lick the wolf's head, right between the ears.
I just realized, our face is in between our ears. Der, i should know that.

bcuz thats theyre way of kissing. and besides why would u want them to lick someplace like ur butt. and some peoples bodies are hairy so they mite not like to lick hairy stuff. faces arent usuly hairy unless u have a mustach or beard

The salt and oils, and also they smell your breath and it intrigues them as to something that might taste good. Im sure they would lick your back and arms too if you were sweaty.

A better question is why do people let them? I mean, I don't lick my a**hole, but Fido licks his. You want Fido licking your face afterward?

well they do that as well...b ut mainly when you bend down they lick your face becaue they lick eachothers faces.. it's a friendly greeting in dog language... they can't lick their own faces..so they lick eachother...they take care of eachother... =)

My dog licks my arms and feet and wherever actually.
But our face has many smells. Like food, permume/calogne, makeup, creams, our breath and they also understand that it's our face and they lick us because they are showing affection.
So, smeels + affection = uncontrollable urge to lick.
