Don't drink so much.

You're dehydrated. You can reduce the effect a little by drinking a pint of water for every glass of wine/measure of spirits/pint of beer you consume, plus another pint right before you go to bed. It won't banish the dry mouth, and you'll be running to the toilet all evening and probably at least once during the night, but it'll help reduce the effect of the hangover. Not banish it, just reduce it. And you'll have lovely skin as a side benefit.

It is true, drinking plenty of water will greatly reduce the symptoms of hangover and dry mouth. Another helpful remedy is, after you have brushed your teeth with toothpaste, clean the surface of your tongue as well. Doing this morning and night, regardless of hangover, will prevent that 'hairy tongue' effect you mention. Reach and Aquafresh make toothbrushes with a tongue-cleaner on the reverse side. A good sloosh of Listerine afterwards will put a total end to your symptoms!!!

Drink a pint of water before going to bed, and drink a small glass of water between each alcoholic drink. I find that most symptoms of a hangover can be relieved by staying hydrated.

I don't think you can avoid it. I've tried everything. The only thing to stop it is not to drink at all or at least not as much.
