What do you think of this statement:

"Most Christians believe in evolution (to some extent), but are afraid of punishment if they were to explore or express their feelings as such."

I'm sure some do not accept any form of evolutionary theory, but you can't ignore the fact that species change over time. Even people are taller, live longer, etc. than they did 1000 years ago. Imagine 3 000 000 years!

Anyway, I just think many are afraid of what God would do if they investigated his greatness on allowing his creatures to adapt to the world around them.

Discuss.

I'd be interested to know where that quote came from regarding Christians being afraid of punishment for considering evolution. I've been around the church my whole life and have never seen anybody timidly addressing the issue. Christianity encourages people to delve deeply into what they believe and doesn't try to prevent anyone from exploring the way that the universe works.

1. I believe in God and have no fear of believing in evolution as a fact. I do accept that it is the predominant theory science has as to how higher and more complex organisms came to be. I used to buy it as factual, since that's how it was taught to me. I now realize that it is not fact. It's an interesting theory. That's all. Nobody has observed a simple life form evolve or change into a more complex life form.

2. Yes, people get taller, but we have never observed a person change into anything but a taller person. We have seen birds develop beaks more suited to cracking different foods, but have never observed a bird change into anything else.

Things may adapt or change a little, BUT, one creature has never turned into another creature. Just as God says in his word, any given creation bears it's own seed so that a dog will always be a dog and a cat will always be a cat. Taller people are still people, there have been tall people in the past and short people, God loves variety. Evolution is for people who cannot understand God as God gives them no understanding, their wisdom is foolishness to him. They can't understand God as he will not put his Holy Spirit upon unbelievers.

okay, people live longer yes, but through medical discoveries; people are becoming more and more mutated. mutations are a loss of genetic information, nothing is ever gained. i would like to see just 1 partly evolved skeleton, just 1 that hasnt been proven fake, 1 that isnt an artists rendition, a skeleton showing evolution. i dont deny natural selection, that is obvious, just not a molecules to man evolution. small changes, just look at the galapagos finches during a drought, their beaks got thicker and harder, 1/2 a buisness card thicker but still grew. oh and their beaks shrank back to original size after the drought was over. creatures do adapt, a giraffe that can see better will have a better shot to see danger. its when you expect me to believe that 2 incredibly complex structures evolved at the same rate is impossible, their necks and heart would have had to grow at the same rate, even if it did, it would have a stroke when it drank and wouldve had brain damage if it managed to stand up from sudden loss of blood in its brain. but the giraffe was so brilliantly designed that it has a "sponge" in its head that absorbs blood as it bends down then releases it when it stands back up. along the way if it had to evolve, if it had part of one, it dies. dead things couldnt evolve, kinda hard to improve the species if theyre all dead

I can only speak for myself. If you tell me that evolution explains only the processes, events, and objects in the material world that governs the development of life on earth, then yes, to a certain extent I can buy that. It has been proven scientifically.

It stops when you try to tell me that my common ancestor is an ape. To me a human is a human and an ape is an ape. Two different species of animal.

I believe that humans were fearfully and wonderfully made by God.

I will go to any extreme to prove to you I DO NOT BELIEVE IN EVOLUTIONISM!!!!!!!
Things 'evolving' over time is a complete theory made by the scientists that think they are above God and make their guess into fact just because they seemed to have gotten some kind of ill conceived 'authority'.

I'd like to believe that most Christians are intelligent enough to understand evolution and incorporate it into their world-view to some extent, but some of those on this board make me wonder if I've been overestimating the average Christian.

I say go ahead and try to prove the theory. If it was a fact, evolution wouldn't be a theory. Theories are not proven facts. I believe God created the world as the Bible states and created man in his image
. I don't believe in some monkey theory. If it's true, someone needs to explain why there are still monkeys and why they haven't "turned human" yet.

They're brainwashed and manipulated by cynical religious leaders. Any religious believer capable of a bit of critical thought would realise that it would be absurd to limit their god to one way of bringing living organisms into the universe rather than another. It's almost sacrilege to deny the evidence of how god caused us to exist (if they believe he did so at all).
