Those may be good options for you but you will need to do your research now. Go to the FBI and the other websites. They do list hiring information on what they are looking for. If you start checking into the information now you may be able to switch your USMC job to something more suitable for the job you want after the Corps. You can also call those agencies and tell them you are still in high school but have enlisted in the USMC. Tell them you would like to work for them when you get out and what should you do now and in the Marines to help out with your goals. Also, take as many college classes online and in person while on active duty. I BA/BS college degree. You can finish your degree on active duty if you bust some butt. Good luck.

You need to consider one major aspect when planning for your employment future...As a former Marine infantryman, what do I have to offer or what sets me apart from the other tens of thousands of young men departing the Army and Marine Corps infantry ranks every six months or so. The truth is, without a degree or specialized skills/experience in language or HUMINT, you won't qualify or be able to compete with others when trying to land a job within the intelligence community. The same rule pretty much applies to any federal law enforcement agency also. As for the police and SWAT...I do know that many state, county and local law enforcement departments do actively seek qualified former servicemembers with a background in infantry or as military police as potential law enforcement candidates. As for SWAT, I've never heard of anyone just jumping onto a team. Usually, SWAT members must begin their careers as a standard police officer before earning the opportunity for SWAT selection. As for private security contractors such as Blackwater or Triple Canopy, these guys are usually from the Special Ops community, with experience in Personal Protection Details and/or have an EMT equivalent with a combat background. Knowing someone on the inside helps out alot also. Bottom line...in regards to your employment future, it's great that your thinking ahead so early, but you need to be realisitic and develop an in-depth game plan. Throughout your first enlistment, take advantage of the military correspondence or resident education programs (don't just talk about it like the other 95% of the military does...DO IT!) to acquire your degree. Next...should you choose to reenlist for another tour, seek an MOS lateral move into a technical field such as computers, counterintelligence, intel analyst, avionics...etc. After eight to twelve years of military service, now you will be able to bring a competitive edge to the job market. You'll have a degree, possibly a highly sought after TS security clearance and real-world experience/application within a valuable skill-set. Otherwise, with nothing more than infantryman on your resume, you may want to seek employment as a police office, fireman or security guard.
Good Luck and Semper Fi

Go to school as soon as you get out. The GI Bill will pay for your tuition.

Job-wise: You can apply to be a Police Officer and will be given preference because you have combat skills (if you go to Iraq). You'll need some time on the force before you can apply to SWAT.

To join the FBI, you must have atleast a 4 year degree. Check their website, it'll tell you the basic requirements.

You can go into Private Security like Blackwater USA, etc.

The jobs you just listed are the most promising for former Marines. I understand, the FBI was taking former Marines who were not formally educated, following 9/11. They liked the discipline and aggressiveness of these people over the ivy leaguers coming out of college.

There's a lot to be said for experience vs. formal education ! However, both are necessary to have success !

You can apply for most civil service jobs with postman being the most odvious for an infantry man. As far as the FBI, police, S.W.A.T., etc... that all depends on your back ground. You would have a good chance at S.W.A.T. if you do sniper training with the marines. Joining the Marines though is a very good start though. It really makes you a good canidate for any job you apply for afterwards.

FBI, CIA, Police and other security related jobs are in store for you when you go out of the Marine Corps.

Many of these answers are correct. Here is my summary. If you're a Marine, why would you ever want to get out? Do 20 years, earn your degree while you're in. When you get out, you've got your degree, leadership skills to set you up for management and/or Human Resouce jobs. But if you got out after 4 years, you'd have to go to school. Good thing is, that's about the age you'd start to know what you do want to do with your life.

...I'm approaching 20 years in USAF. Here is what the VA says I'm qualified to do. Of course over the 20 years my job has changed several times and I got more experience and training each time. I have a degree in Logistics Management and a degree in Computer Systems Technology. (all paid for while I was in.)

SIDE NOTE: Don't join the military for the JOB you want afterwards. Join because you want to serve, all those other things are just extra perks...but most importantly you have to want to be there and be a Marine!

Also, I didn't have to do those 20 years in a combat unit. The last 10 have been pretty laid back.

Any of those places would consider you...most require college. A basic Grunt 0311, doesnt have much to offer the job market, except leadership experience. If you become a leader that is.
My son was in Anti-Terrorism / Security...he went back to college when he got out, noe\w doing computer work. He is a disabled vet, ruined his plans for the police.

Not much. Your marine background may get you those jobs but the infantry part wont help too much. You cant just come out and be a doctor without getting your degree. And with spelling like that you may want to consider a proper education first.
