Most casino chips are a clay chip, custom made for an individual casino by the Paulson company. This company also makes many of the playing cards used in the casino. This company does so well, that they very rarely make poker chips for anyone that is not a casino. there was a time in vegas when you could take a chip and cash it at any casino on the strip, but due to fake chips, those days are long gone. I would love to see the casinos that are owned by the same company, allow this to happen again, but I am afraid that will bever happen.

The major casinos DO NOT use 11.5gr chips. They use pure clay chips that generally weight between 9 and 9.5gr each. The major producers of these chips for Casinos are Paulson and ChipCo.

Almost all casinos today use their own chips, with their logos or trademarks and name on them; they have embedded security devices to insure they can't be counterfeited, since they are as good as cash inside the casinos. There are security companies that manufacture these chips (or sometimes called "plaques", if they are square,) and their own tokens to use in slot machines, for $1, $5, or $10, or more) It is a big business for the casino industry. They spend millions to maintain their equipment, and they have special commemorative chips that are collector's items as well .
