Hi there. I am sorry for your loss. did you lose the hen's mate or a chick? I'm going to assume it was her mate. Sometimes females do get very aggressive when they are brooding. It is difficult to know what killed him, but we can take steps to try to keep the rest healthy. Healthy offspring is physically draining to the hen. Offer her a good pellet food made for finches, seeds, chopped hard cooked egg with crumbled shell for the extra protein and calcium and other nutrients.Fresh fruits and veggies 10-20% .http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/NavResults.cfm?N=2003+113437 This is one source. Zebra finches typically can live 7-10 years. We may never know what killed the male, but we can try to ensure healthy lives to the others. May things go very well .http://www.animaladventurepets.com/zebrafinch.htm This article has some sound good advice.Hang in there I believe things will work out. When the time is appropriate. clean the cage well and disinfect it with a spray bottled filled with white vinegar and follow with a spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide. These are nontoxic and sprayed in any order, Have a great year

i'm not an expert with finches even although because they're hatching, that tells me the mothers and fathers are sitting and save the eggs heat. while the babies die in some days tells me perhaps the mothers and fathers are actually not feeding them. advise giving the mothers and fathers a good form of sparkling delicate ingredients which includes a commercial egg nutrition. you may attempt putting cooked corn, peas and sw potatoes right into a nutrition processor making the mixture very small products. upload scrambled eggs to the mixture and supply it to the mothers and fathers to feed the babies. even although, if the mothers and fathers are actually not feeding the babies that's because of over crowding interior the cage or perhaps the mothers and fathers are youthful and inexpierenced. examine on line for a finch breeder close to you. provide them a call and that they can be waiting that may additionally assist you extra. reliable success.

I lost my male finch during chick raising last fall. Raising chicks is VERY stressful and if he was slightly ill it could have made it worse.
Take the surviving birds to an Avian Vet for a check up ASAP!

The female could have done this as our cocktail killed one of our male bird. But if the others die, HAVE A VET CHECK THEM OUT ASAP! Might carry the bird flu. Or at lest ask a vet.
make sure cages are all cleaned out ethereally after the birds death.
Better safe than sorry.

are you sure the female didn't do it? they can be aggresive towards any bird if she is caring for her babies. my advice would be to join this group and they will help you sooooo much.. they helped me with several issues and have so many really nice caring people in their group... good luck..smile
