That is actually a diet myth. Here's an excerpt of an article taken off of MSNBC regarding the Top Ten Diet Myths.

Myth #9 Never eat at night
Fact: Calories don’t know time
What’s important is how many calories you consume; not when you eat them. Many successful dieters save 200 to 300 calories to eat at night. Sure, eating a big steak before you go to bed may give you some indigestion, but it won’t ruin your diet. Eating at night may be the best time for you. You’re at home, the kids are in bed, and you have time to enjoy your food. Oprah says she doesn’t eat after dinner, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a late snack and still stick to your diet.

Yes, as your body digests the calories in the food while you are sleeping, it has nothing to do with them except store them as fat, resulting in a bigger stomach, butt etc.

It depends what kind of food you eat right before you go to sleep. The more calories you eat, the more your body stores.

e.g. if you eat a 6 high-fat Taco Bell tacos, your body will ingest and store more calories than if you ate 6 low-fat rice cakes.

YES especially if it's after 9PM. You shouldnt eat 4 hours before you go to sleep. If you have dinner at 7:00pm dont eat ice cream at 10:30pm!! If you feel hungry just drink a lot of water, your stomach is just "bored" and you'll feel hungry. if you dont want water eat something with very very very low fat, like 1g of fat and very very few calories...like 80 or less.

i'm not sure it causes your stomach bigger but i do know for sure it's unhealthy..you need to give your body some time to burn off at least some of the calories consumed in the meal..
