First - from everything I have read about Verizon, they will never delete (the pinheads)

The statute of limitations for collecting on a Verizon account is 4 years (UCC utility SOL)

If you are past the collecting SOL you are not legally bound to pay and you would have the legal right to send them a SOL letter telling them the debt is no longer collectible.

If you are past the collecting SOL and want to pay, being past SOL is in your favor in getting the collection agency to delete upon payment. It would also be in your favor for requesting to pay a reduced amount as payment in full.

If you are past the collecting SOL and the collection agency is aware that "you" know it, they will do whatever it takes to get paid on an uncollectible debt - such as taking a reduced amount and deleting their tradeline upon payment. Even if you are still within SOL, they usually make those deals.

Never speak to the collection agency by phone. Do everything by mail and send everything certified mail return receipt. Never send payment by check, always use money orders or cashiers checks.

Order your "paid" reports from each CRA. Don't use the free FACT-ACT reports or tri-merge reports.

IF both Verizon and the collection agency are reporting, Verizon must show a zero balance. If Verizon is reporting a balance, dispute it with the CRA's by mail.

When you use paid reports from each CRA, the CRA's have 30 days to investigate and an extra 5 days to mail the results. If you use the free reports, they have an extra 15 days to investigate. If you use tri-merge reports, you cannot be sure all of the information on them is totally correct.

When you send a dispute to the CRA's, never-ever contact them for "anything" until either the CRA's have finished their investigation or the 35 days have passed, even if the CRA sends you a letter requesting more info. Contacting them for anything while having a dispute going will mean an extra 15 days added to your dispute.

Check your reports to see if the collection agency is reporting correctly (bet they aren't)

Send the collection agency a debt validation letter.
When you get the green card back from the certified mail, file a dispute with the CRA's for any inaccurate info the collection agency is reporting.

When you receive validation from the collection agency, or 35 days since the time they signed the green card, and you are past SOL and don't want to pay, send a SOL letter.

If you want to pay and it's still in SOL or past SOL, after you receive proper validation, send them a pay for delete letter. Let them know in the letter (that the account is past the collecting SOL - if it is), that you are not admitting the debt is yours, but that you will pay upon them agreeing to your requests.
Request that they take a portion of the debt as payment in full, they will not try to collect, sell or trade the remaining amount. Request that they will delete any tradeline they have placed on your reports upon payment.

That's about as detailed as I can make it on this site. There is just to much information to include everything.

I would suggest reading through the FCRA and the FDCPA before sending anything out. I have their links, and others you may find handy, listed in my profile.

call either verizon or the collection agency and set up a payment plan. pay with checks if all possible. never money order. checks are "documented" evidence that you have paid. always write what it is you are paying for in the memo part of the check. once you have paid it all off, call the collection agency or verizon and ask that they remove any and all bad reporting from your report, bug them over and over again, they will usually remove it quickly, believe me i know. good luck to ya

call the collection agency and tell them you got half of the bill and see if they will offer you a settlement. Pay by check so you will have a written receipt for yourself of what you paid. Take a note and write down who you talked to what time and the confirmation number or reference number. Also ask them when will you receive you receipt of payment from them write down the date, if you don't receive it call them back with all your info. If you still don't get any results speak to the manager and write down his name and so on until you get results. I just paid off a old cellure one bill the same way.

this question calls for a touch more beneficial options... in the starting up, how old is the debt you're inquiring about? There are statutes of barriers on old debt. once you've been contacted by ability of a set corporation that's likely you're being charged activity by ability of the unique creditor. in spite of the undeniable fact that, there are debt customers which will purchase old debt for pennies on the dollar. Collections agencies do no longer fee activity, lenders fee activity. Debt customers on the different hand can fee activity; once they purchase the debt they develop into the creditor and may pursue collections as they desire... including taking you to courtroom. in case you believe you're being contacted by ability of a debt buyer, start up by ability of soliciting for (in writing) the unique bill - or settlement. in the journey that they can't produce it, you're likely coping with a debt buyer meaning your debt has been written off and offered. if it truly is the case, that's on your best activity to write down a quit and desist letter soliciting for that they quit contacting you. if you're coping with a valid collections corporation, you actually have thoughts... you may dispute the debt in case you experience the debt isn't valid or you may dispute the quantity of the debt. Request verification of the steadiness due, the collections corporation has 30 days to respond to your request, in the journey that they can't make certain the debt is valid, they can't proceed to pursue collections.
