My boyfriend of one month just lost his grandmother. I was in touch with him today, several hours after it happened, and I told him that if he wanted to talk, or wanted company, to call me, because I know we all handle pain differently. It seems redundant to be constantly asking how he is, what's going on, how I can help etc., especially if wants his alone time as a way of coping. But on the other hand, I do want him to be sure I am supportive and to that I'm not running from this tough situation in his life. My question is, now that I have let him know I am here for him, should I give him his space for a while and just wait for him to contact me when he feels ready, or should I continue to text him every so often to check in and remind him I am here for him?

He is probably going to need time with his family. You are right, guys handle things differently. He may not want to cry in front of you either. Just be there and try not to dig. Sometimes a hug or squeezing a guys hand is enough, just let him talk on his own time. Will you be attending the funeral? If he wants you around just take cues and remember this is not a girl you are dealing with. Maybe call once a day. Follow your intuition depending on how well you know him maybe you can read him.

Let him breathe for a little. Death affects people differently. A friend recently had her bf lose his cousin, and he refused to talk to her about it, have her come around for support, or even hug her. In fact it wasnt until after they broke up, could he talk about it, some 3 months after the death. Just msg each day to say you care. That's enough to show you care without being in his face, and he'll take it from there.

don't hassle him or text, he might get annoyed. just tell him once and only once: i am here for you. that is all it takes. and if he doesnt talk with you, then don't panic- he may just be a private person. if i were you, i would just ask like normal around him.
