Impressionist painting was really a rebellion against Renaissance and Baroque art that was dictated. One could only paint certain motives and subject matter.
The impressionists discovered realism and surrealism to express themselves. . .the way they saw it.
They were all contemporaries within a fifty to seventy year period.
At first it was not well accepted, however, later on when more artists were practicing it the public took a liking to it since the themes and colors were more diverse.
They mostly congregated in France and many of them studied one another's style while trying to make a living in Paris.
Mary Cassatt was female and she entered the artists area near the end of the classical Impressionist era, so did Manet

Sounds like you want us to do your homework for you. Honestly, look into it, it's a very colorful era of painting where the industrial age actually created pigments never before created, therefore there are vivid colors and a large variety of them too.

Look it up, you'll be awed by it, especially if you learn some basic history of the period before it.
