All piercings will leave scars, even if they are tiny. You can only see mine when I point mine out, but other people have very noticeable scars. It all depends on your body and how well you take care of your piercing.

Umm, yes it has to go all the way through. They may have been talking about different jewelery. Some piercers use a ring, but a lot of others use the L bar and a screw in which don't have a butterfly back (like you see in lobe jewelery).

I have a nose ring and since it did not get infected, have not noticed a scar. I am dark skin as well. My nose ring is a small diamond stud it does not have a back on it; rather it is a regular stud earring with a little bulb on the end. The bulb is thicker than the size of the hole, that's what keeps the nose ring in place. With the same note in mind, it is a little painful to take off and to put on because the hole is smaller than the bulb at the end. The bulb is not obviously noticeable, unless you are holding it up to your eyes.

my best friend has her nose pierced. the first time she had it done, it just would not heal up right. she finally decided to take the ring out and let the hole close back up and have it re-done later. it healed up really well and without a scar. she went back to the same place as she did the first time to get it pierced again, but a different person did it, and he said that the reason her first piercing wouldn't heal was because the woman who'd done it used jewelry that was too big. and I think he was right, because the one that he did healed up in just a couple of weeks, and looks great. the only thing that's kind of strange is that the piece of jewelry that they use when you first get your nose pierced has a piece of metal that kind of hangs down inside your nose and people would come up and tell my friend, excuse me, but you have a booger hanging out your nose! that's the only thing she ever complained about!! so, I don't think you should have a problem with scars because she didn't.
Best Wishes!

My friend is from El Salvador, she has a dark complection as well. She had her nose pierced about 2 years ago and had to take it out after a while because of school. Since then I have not noticed a scar at all, so I wouldnt worry about that. They do not have backs on them because the part that goes through your nose curves on the inside so it won't fall out. So the piercing itself is like a U shape. Good luck!

yes it will leave a scar, if you take it out, you will notice the spot, I had my nose pierced, and now I don't wear a ring in it, the hole closed, and there is a scar. Nope, no backs, if its a stud, the end is curved instead of being straigt so its stays in. You can also wear a small hoop.

Most females are pierced with a nose screw. Which is a twisted piece of jewelry held in place with its hook shaped end. You can easily google image a picture of it if you are curious. The end of it helps it stay in place.

As far as scarring, as long as its gone by a reputable piercer and you take care of it, there will be a minimal scar left behind when you remove the jewelry. Usually it looks like a teeny black head until the skin heals over then its nearly invisible.

I had my nose pierced but took it out because I didn't like it. The ring was a screw. Here's a what they look like: http://cgi.ebay.com/lot-of-5-Surgical-Steel-SS-Ball-Nose-Screw-Rings_W0QQitemZ200089288133QQcategoryZ98540QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It won't scar if you always keep it clean. There's a chance it could scar if it ever gets infected.

it's true that they don't have backs on them.

the studs usually have the stud and then the metal thru the nose, and then instead of just being straight like a normal earring, it curves so that it almost grasps on to the inside of your nose. you can't feel it at all and they are easy to take out as well. with a ring, they typically have a screw on ball or they will stay on by themselves.

Yeah they leave a little dot on your nose it kinda looks like a hole. On the end of the nose ring there is a ball that keeps it in place.
