Protein shakes are often associated with weightlifting and bulk, but the reality is that personal trainers will have women drink about one or two a day as well. The reason for this is protein is a more "efficient" calorie, in that the number of calories it takes to burn a gram of protein during the digestion process is higher than that of fat or carbohydrates.

Whey protein isolates that can be mixed in water, milk, or a blended smoothie (with fruit and yogurt for example) is a good place to start. First thing in the morning. American Whey and Optimum Nutrition are a few good places to start as far as brands go...not much added fat, sugar, sodium, or cholesterol.

for what you are doing i would highly recommend the personalised protein powder by shapeworks. It has 12g of protein with each shake. You dont need to take it as a breakfast replacement but can take it with breakfast. You can use it more than once a day depending on how you work out and your energy levels throughout the day. Go to www.myhealthabcmall.com, and look under the sports and fitness section. The guys there can also give you great advice too on what is exactly right for you instead of just buying something and hoping. There is a link on the above website to get any advice you need. Good luck.
