I know it's the opposit of what your asking but don't bring a child to playa del ingles in Gran Canaria, just in case that was an option! I was there last year and had a great time but unless your son likes foam parties and drinking games he wont!

The Canary Islands are lovely. As with anywhere, some parts are a bit too commercial but they are truly beautiful.. more exotic than your normal Spain but not too far away that you need injections or fear for your safety. It is 3 and half hours on the plane from Manchester Airport. I would recommend Puerto Del Carmen in Lanzarote for a fun, lively resort with loads to do. The Hotel Fariones is stunning. Really nice. And the buffet is amazing... so much choice. Or there are quieter resorts in Playa Blanca that also offer all inclusive. Hope that helps. I have been 20 times x

Go to Spain, it might seem like everyone goes there but that is only because it is a good place to go. There are usually lots of good deals as there is a lot of competition and also there is a fair amount of things for kids to do.
Gibraltar is worth a day trip (or overnight) if you go anywhere near it. Also it's about £4 a litre for spirits and £10 for 200 cigs on Gibraltar. There are the apes there and some cool caves. Don't spend the whole trip on Gibraltar though as it is not a big place and quickly you will run out of things to do.
Another good place to see in Spain is Granada which is a very fine city, as is Malaga and Cordoba. All three of these places have castles, shops and cafes that are great.
Spain is a wonderful holiday and good value. Also a lot of locals speak English (a few words of Spanish may be worth learning - like "where is the toilet" or "a glass of water please").
Try flying to Malaga airport and staying in that area. Look on-line for photos and ideas too!
One word of warning though - Spain has great food but not for vegetarians like me (I get by there but my friends get great meals I can not have!).
HAVE A GREAT TIME WHEREVER YOU CHOOSE!

Travel agency is best as you get personal service, info and advice. You can do all bookings e.g. holiday & insurance/car hire in one go too. I would suggest Spain or Greece or Bulgaria or Turkey. Look for a family resort with perhaps a kids club or a theme park nearby. Otherwise you could try a camping holiday anywhere in Europe. Good luck.
