Okay so the REM cycle is dreaming or whatever.

What I really mean is why and how can people dream when they've barely fallen asleep?

first off its not the REM cycle... REM is part of the SLEEP cycle.. and theres a bunch of levels including REM in the sleep cycle.. you dream in your deepest sleep.. which i believe is the 3rd or 4th stage... every stage is about 30 minutes or so

I had a sleep study and they told me it's the third level of Rem when your dreaming so it's a good sign that your getting rest if you dream.
