Christianity has had a very positive impact on the world. I seem to recall that D. James Kennedy has written a book entitled _What if Jesus Had Never Been Born?" outlining some of the ways Christianity has made a positive impact on the world.
I can think of several ways. If you aren't Roman now, you have civil rights. Christianity eventually helped do away with slavery, btw.
Roman officials used to throw criminals and political dissidents to the lions and other animals. I have heard they had exotic animals like cheetas trained to rape women and all kinds of bizaar animals. People would watch such barbarity for fun. They also had gladiators, slaves who fought, and sometimes killed each other.
Christians would go into villages that had plagues and take care of the people. Hospitals eventually were developed by Christians.
Plus, the presence of Christianity on this planet is a barrier against Islam. If all the nations were pagan, Islam would probably have a much stronger chance of spreading.
Not to mention the fact that there was spiritual darkness in most nations, with people worshipping rocks, wood, and metal objects without having much knowledge of the one true God or His commandments.

The only way I could imagine, is when the people involved actually think they are trying to make the world a better place. To me, it's not when they're trying to convert others, but when they treat other people nice.
