Wouldn't you say that God will be God no matter what we think of him, accept or reject his existence? Often times I hear people say "my god wouldn't do this or that.." We like to shape him into an image that fits our lifestyles, so we don't have to feel bad. Just imagine God is who he says he is then our interpretation of him is not what counts. Rather it is His word that accuratley portrays him.

I am conviced that people do not like to accept a God with rules, because that would mean they would have to alter their lifestyle to please him and follow him. Atheists regard this as a judgmental or rule abiding life, they do not see it as a freeing life that can bring not just happiness in life that is not temporary (like so many things of this world are ex. sex, drugs, alcohol) but permenant joy. So introducing Evolution or anything contrary to the bible we have eliminated a God whom we one day have to give account to what we have done with our lives.

Well, I utterly fail to understand just how proving evolution would cause God to evaporate in a puff of logic. I suspect that he'd survive even if we did manage to prove it to everyone's satisfaction.

Me, I always liked the traditional Jewish answer to that particular riddle. A Jew would tell you that parts of Genesis are more about illustrating some aspects of the relationship between God an man than about describing actual historical events. I fugure that it's their book, so they should know.

Then again, there are parts of the bible that do seem to be more or less historically accurate. I take the view that even if the entirety of the old testament were allegory, that fact would not erase it's essential truth. In other words, I don't worry much about whether the Bible is describing history. Instead, I concentrate on what the text is trying to tell me about myself and about God.

In any event, I do agree with much of what you say. To some extent, God is all about limits. There are those who would rather reject God outright than accept limits.

AMEN! BROTHER!
That is exactly what I have been saying all along, that no matter what the TRUTH REMAINS, and God does not change and He will ALWAYS BE God!
And what you said right here> Rather it is His word that accuratley portrays him.

-YES- exactly. God IS the God of the Bible. Many do not want to accept Him because they like the sin they live in---their pride is in the way. But God will always be who HE is and that makes me smile, just knowing that the truth will always remain!
Matthew 24:35
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
And Revelation 1:7 says Jesus the Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end! Amen!

The truth is people don't want a God that is Unconditional Love and so they make God into their own image -- one that judges, one that has rules, etc. Jesus' message was DRAMATICALLY changed in the bible, with only a small portion remaining intact from the original. His prodigal son parable is probably close to the original and it shows us the tendency of our making god into our own image -- both sons do this. The 'good son' is the devout believer who thinks god should behave with rules, judgement, etc. and is VERY angry when he finds out that God -- in his unconditional love -- doesn't behave that way. Believers will NEVER EVER accept unconditional love and will instead make up a god in their own image and that hides the REAL god away.

Here we go again...
So, you mean that if I choose to follow God I'll have to quit working at my job? Giving advice to people who are going through rough times? Being a selfless person? Quit being happy all the time?
That's what giving up my lifestyle entails. Have you read any of the other posts that say the EXACT SAME THING? Wow... you people don't listen, do you?

You are so full of sh*t.

Do you REALLY think that evolution, big-bang etc. were created as an atheist conspiracy to justify disbelief?

Listen, I live my life almost identical to every christian I know. I don't drink, I don't use drugs, and I am loyal to my girlfriend.

They ONLY difference between me and most theists is that I don't believe in god, and don't go to chruch.

if the bible is true, then logic and intelligence and knowledge and reason all go out the window, and anything is game. up is down...and peter pan and harry potter are real, too!

you said "I am conviced that people do not like to accept a God with rules". well, that's no surprise, since the people who claim to follow the bible and bible-god don't even follow its rules. WHOOOPS!!

I agree. I think that is also why so many try and deny His existence, so they dont have to own up to the responsibility of their sins
