most people feel better about themselves if they are rude to someone else. Some people are just rude to other people for fun. Sometimes they can't control themselves and feel that it is better to be truthful, even if it's rude, than it is to lie and be polite. sometimes they can be right. But sometimes you think it might have been better if they kept it to themselves or didn't say it to you, but if that's the case, then would you rather they talk behind your back?
It's in the human nature to always want to be better than others and when someone is rude to someone else, it may make them feel better about themselves.

Rudeness is a perception, so maybe it depends on the situation, circumstances, reasoning behind why someone is seemingly being rude in the first place. Does that make any sense? If they were the person that was seen as being rude by the other perhaps they would say that the other was the one being rude? People are all different aren't they?

Because they can be.
There are as many reasons as there are people.
Sometimes people do not even know they are being rude. It could be cultural and/or linguistic, age related, but some people just thrive on being awful.
I kind of have zero tolerance for rudeness and tend to pointedly "you are very welcome" to someone who does not thank...
Some people get really hot over religion and politics.
These are serious topics for them. Some get downright ignorant and rude so I again let it slide. Not worth the hassle. I guess people are rude for a million reasons.
The world is a serious place and people forget that this is just a light forum, not a place to get all emotional about. They might feel unheard or insignificant so here is where they do their nastiness...
I just refuse to accept it ...

People have taken this "I don't care what people think about me" attitude way too far. Of course they don't care, but eventually their circle of friends will get smaller and they will be banned from a lot of places!
The best way to handle a rude person is through nonchalance. I am having to do that a lot lately!

Because they find it easier, than being nice. Believe it or not, but it's actually difficult for some to not be rude. It makes them feel bigger about themselves and more popular with their peers when their mean and making fun of others.
Insecurity, or they learned it from their family.

I think because things are not going their way.Not according to their plan. Are because they think they are better than you.I work with the public and some people can be just awful I have found out its because they have had a bad day,no sleep and some are just a--holes.You just have to learn how to deal with people like that and not let it bother you.It makes me feel better to feel sorry for them it must be horrible to be in such a bad mood all the time.

They often don't realize they're rude - they just don't think of people other than themselves. Very little empathy. It has to do with a poor upbringing and lack of values.

Maybe they are having a rough time and they're taking their anger out on you. I know its hard, but maybe you should try putting yourself in their shoes and imagining what it's like to be them right now. Maybe they want someone to understand, and you should ask how they're doing or if anything is wrong. You might be surprised how they respond.
