I have had ribs broken and I know how painful it can be. It took me three weeks before I could move, talk, laugh, sneeze, or breathe deeply without pain. The general rule is that if the recommended dosage of pain medication doesn't relieve the pain, more will not help and can be dangerous. Soaking in a warm tub while concentrating on total relaxation may help some. Try a heating pad on a low setting to ease the pain. Move slowly and carefully when you're up. No lifting or reaching as that is not helpful. I used an antihistamine (Benadryl) at night with the pain medication as it helped me relax and sleep more comfortably.

a friend of mine has a broken rib at the moment and unfortunatly theres not much you can do except use pain medication, and if they are not working maybe you should see your doctor to prescribe something stronger. But untill then avoid activity that will agrivate the fracture, only time can help heal a broken rib. Oh and by the way if you do feel short of breathe and find it hard to breathe see your doctor, my friend put up with this for 2 days and went to the hospital and had a collapsed lung
anyway good luck with your healing process

Katie- i'm training to be a health care giver. have you been to a hospital? if not, go! with or without your dad. you bones could regrow in the wrong way and could leave u with problems that cant be fixed. about the pain killers... too much pain killers will cause hypoventelation. thats when your breathing slows WAY down. you could even stop breathing. and thats not the only problem that can come from pain killers. a hospital can help with the pain, but i would personally recomend seeing the closest master herbalist to you. thats THE BEST way to treat pain.

Thermacare menstrual patches artwork wonders. Taking a warm tub, and midol enables too. i stumble on whilst i'm annoying it hurts worse, so i attempt to place down in the fetal place (with my knees as on the factor of my chest as achievable) and relax my physique. i understand this sounds stupid, yet in specific circumstances I snuggle with a physique pillow on my abdomen and it enables too. Any way you look at it, i might say something that could furnish warmth will help ease the soreness.
