i recntly found out that i shouldn't pronounce the "r" in iron. how many others are there wher i have to hide the "R"

Actually, you do pronounce the r in iron. It's pronounce "i - earn". (If you don't believe me, check out this : http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/audio.pl?iron0001.wav=iron )

If you wouldn't pronounce the r, the word you would be saying is "ion," which is a completely different word.

I'm sure there are a bunch of other words with silent r's, but most people don't count because there are too many words in the English language.

Good question. I think they are mostly found at the ends of words like: carter, weather, leather. It does depend however on your accent as Scottish people can sometimes softly whisper an end r.
