Kicker makes a sub that is low profile and will fit behind a standard truck seat. It is also a very nice sounding system as you get a lot of bang for your buck. Try Circuit City, they can even install it for you.

RE:
What is the best subwoofer system for a truck?
It is a regular cab w/little room behind the seat. Do not want to use the seat or floorboard for a huge sub.

I have a 96 Chevy p/u with 4 8" Memphis subs behind the seat. I have a Memphis amp pushin them and they pound like any other sub. The sound doesn't carry like 12 or 15's do, but inside the truck they hit just as hard as 12 or 15's do. People are shocked when they ride with me and find out I only have 8" subs. I would definitely recommend 8" subs for tight spaces. I have twin boys that are 15 and they thought I was crazy for buying 8's, that is until they heard and felt them. Now all the kids in the neighborhood want to ride in the truck and bump to 8's!!!

Go to a shop that has equipment on display that you can audition before you decide on installation. I was just at a gas station in Hayward, California that was starting to crowd, but the real aggravation to me was the one guy, riding solo (wonder why?) with all the windows down and the sound going "BWWWW! BWWWWW! BUWWWWWW!" and every nut and bolt in that heap was rattling and the license plate was flapping hard. People do stuff like that when they don't question, I suppose, how much is too much, and go on the biggest numbers whatever somebody suggests to them. You can get a real good sound going with Rockford Fosgate and you don't really need more than 300 RMS watts. There's only so much you can hear anyway. Above that is pain and risk of hearing loss, and looking like the Hayward pinhead I told you about.

I did the same thing in a 99 chevy ext cab, I would say that someone is trying to rip you off. My box was custom built, I had Rockford Fosgate P2 subs in it, I want to say I had roughly 500 dollars into the subs and boxes. I was running an 800 watt Kenwood amp on them and had about another 400 dollars into that as well. If they are telling you that ONLY shallow mounts will work, then they are full of it. I sold the box and speakers or I would send you dimensions and some pics.

My brother just installed a sealed box with two 10" Clarion Shallow-Mount PFW1051 subs. It is still in the break-in period and it POUNDS. They hit like deep subs. They have a much bigger Xmax than other shallow subs. They hit the lows very well. They will hit hard enough to give you a headache, and thats only about 1/2 way up. They can each handle 300 watts RMS. He has a **** Pyle amp pushing 150 distorted watts RMS and they still sound good. They are a little pricey at $200.00 a piece from OnlineCarStereo.com, but well worth every penny. I would reccommend these subs to anyone. Thats my 2 cents.

its not even close. Pioneer Premier has THE BEST shallow mount subs on the planet. there 4" thick, and will pound like a normal woofer. hell they give you a better boom then most of the crap you can buy at Best Buy. i highly suggest going to a private shop and checking one out. you have to see it to believe it. the woofer doesnt even look like its on. its really awesome.
