evenly spaced, not too many in a row (they need an even flow of hot air) on a flat baking sheet. use parchment paper to stop them sticking and try the middle rack of the oven.

also read the recipe right through, often the recipe will have temperature guides, info about how much they spread, how long they take to cook etc

Use butter that has been taken out about 1 hr. prior to baking, add eggs one at a time, put the dough in the fridge prior to baking (they hold their shape better) and I use parchment paper on old fashioned jelly roll sheets.

** Also, remember that cookies continue cooking while they are out of the oven and on the sheet 'cooling' so take them out a hair underdone otherwise they may be too crisp. Let them cool on the sheet for about 2-3 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack.

In an oven? With sugar? On a cookie sheet? Until it's fully cooked?
