I had a Chase Mastercard that I had gotten my freshman year in college. 4 years later and I have only used it maybe 5 times....and only recently. But then my card went missing and I have $700 on my account that I'm responsible for???? How do I fix this?? I only maybe used it for $120 altogether?? I don't use credit cards...I know it's a very bad habit...so that is why I never used it. I don't have many expenses yet so there is no need to use it. I definitely don't want my credit ruined this early.. on my first card!

I cancelled it and all.. Duh. But I mean what do I do to stop the late fees on the balance from adding up while they sort out this? My due date is the 21st and I just filed for fraud yesterday. I don't want to have to pay for the late charges for not having paid the full amount!!!

call them ,or go into your bank branch and ask for an assistant manager . They may suspend any activity until they sort out the charges .

If you cant do that pay the minimum balance each month, that will keep your credit good for payments. Any interest should be excused by the bank. even if you are found liable for some of the debt. You may be expected to file a police report on the card theft.

You will need to proof that you are not liable for the other charges. File a police report that the card was lost. You need to indicate when you realised the card went missing because this will determine if all charges were your liability. In each credit card there is a liability clause meaning that you will be liable for XX $$ if there is fraud and the credit card company will write-off the balance.

OK...I've got a dumb question....did you call them? First thing I'd do when I found my cc was missing would be to look up the number on the web (or in documentation from the company that I keep, including statements) and call them to report it stolen/lost. Usually they will not hold you liable. However, if there has been a significant delay, I don't know how they'll react.

Inform the company immediately so that they cancel the card. They will be responsible for the charges, because whoever used it other than you failed to show proper identification.
