Depends upon your local regulations... some places require vaccinations every year, my state every 3 years.

That's something your dog should get. It's not the other dogs that are a problem, it's what other wildlife your dog may encounter while you're not around.

A lot of people seem to think a rabies shot is good for 3 years, and I realize that even some vets may agree, but I work in a shelter and a rabies shot is mandatory once a year in our city ordiances you must have a city license on a yearly basis. In order to buy a city license you must show proof of a CURRENT YEARS rabies shot, if someone is caught without a city license the fines can be up to $500.00, also it is good to keep the rabies shot current JUST IN CASE the dog was to be involved in a bite incident, even a accident bite if a animal is not Current on a rabies shot there is no option the animal has to be under quarantine at the shelter OR a Vets Office, this can be very costly, If you are current on a rabies shot you may do a home quarantine on the animal, which is much better on you AND your pet. We also offer a differential license fee A sterilized city license cost only $5.00 while a unsterilized animal license is $30.00, we use this as a incentive for people to sterilize their pets, which has been quite successfull. Its just a good ideal to vacc your dog with a rabies shot EVERY YEAR besides rabies shots are not expensive We do not recognize the store bought vaccines we require a LICENSED VET to administer the rabies shot, your vet will give you signed documentation of the rabies vaccine this is good as you will have written documentation and proof always on hand, sorry so lengthy hope this helps!!!

If your pup is now 15 months old and had his first rabies shot at 4 months, that means 11 months have passed. So you are VERY close to getting another shot.

The good news is that after this shot, he won't need another for 3 years! The vaccine has changed and after the first two shots, the dog is considered immunized for a longer period.

So yes, get him this shot. Furthermore, as you've had him for almost a year, take him for a full check-up at the vet. The vet may do a stool analysis (for worms), give you heartworm meds (VERY VERY important), give other vaccinations and do a general check-up to ensure all is well.

Yes, this may cost some $$. However, spending a few hundred dollars ONCE a year on your pet to assure that he stays healthy is not much. In fact, you should plan for it and budget accordingly.

Lastly, while you still have about a month left, yes, you do need to give him this shot. If, for some reason, your dog has been found not to have his shots (or be properly licensed with the city), I can assure you that it will cost a lot more! Some people never register their dogs with the city - but eventually the city will find out and then you have to pay a lot more money.

Good luck!

Unless the vet gives your dog a 3 year rabies shot, your dog needs another shot for this year and every year after that. Our cat Max gets his rabies shots every 3 years and only need to see the vet if he gets sick within the next 3 years.

Probably they gave your dog a one year rabies shot and even though it says it's one year, that's really more of a legal thing. It doesn't automatically lose its effectiveness after a year. It's not too late to get his shot either. Personally, I think it's wise to keep rabies shots up to date because if anything happens with your dog and another animal or with a person and there's any question about rabies, you know you're protected and you have proof.

All cats and all dogs must be vaccinated against Rabies every year in most places according to the law. Violation of this can end up being a misdemeanor.

They need a rabies once a year. Most vets will not even do anything without making sure you keep this up to date.
