True, that is often how i think about god and the way that religion regards this alleged creator. One look at the answers you are getting shows that logic, or logical arguments, have no place in religion. Indeed, in order to accept religion, or religious belief in the unknown, you must forsake a little, or a lot, or your logic.
If we do, for the sake of argument, accept that a god created this universe, then we must first define what we mean by this god. Again for the sake of argument let us assume that we are talking about the god of Christianity and Islam. OK, so what does this tell us? This tells us that this god is so powerful, so knowledgeable (omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent and all those words) that he could not possibly (if we think LOGICALLY) need us petty human beings. Yet, we are told over and over again that we must do this and that to keep god satisfied, or else...
Some of those answering will say "no, you don't need to satisfy god, god is love, god is this, god is that", sure, then i do not need to pray, i do not need to believe, because nothing i do or say will have the slightest effect on god. In short, i can never know god, i can only know what i am being told or what some ancient text tells me about this god and the eternal torment being readied for me if i do not follow his words, or do not accept Jesus, or Mohamed or whatever as his son or prophet.
But i would like to just say that i am not a fan of talking about Muslims as if they are the root of all evil in the world. Islam still has a long way to go before it kills as many people as Christiantiy. It is only very recently that Islam entered the violent stage that Christianity went through in the dark and middle ages.
Anyway, you will see from the many answers here that all you need to do is just "accept and believe", turn off your mind, disconnect your logic and submit to the will and words of some unseen, unfelt diety.
I have yet to reconcile the immense cruelty of this world with what i am being told about the kindness and mercy of this creator. I have yet to reconcile this mercy with the idea of orginial sin, the (alleged) agonies of the crucifixtion, the blood spilt in the name of god and so forth.
Go to the people of Afghanistan and Iraq and tell them how much god loves them. Go to the parents of the innocent children killed in the Asian Tsunami and tell them about divine kindess. Go to the victims of the church and talk to them about the justice and peace they will see in heaven.
Is this blasphemy that i speak? Maybe so, but tell me how this hurts anyone? Is the faith of believers so weak that they will be swayed by my words? If it is, then they do not deserve to believe, or perhaps their faith does to deserve to be accepted.

Blasphemy is a term created to shut up those that would question the idiotic teaching of religion. You have to remember there was a time we could not have a open forum like this. The religious would kill you for speaking your mind and trying to bring common sense logic to a obviously flawed doctrine like the bible.
Through coercion is how religions have made this far in time. The numbers are growing that do see the light from the darkness religions have used to control the minds of many.
Your identity is safe here to give you the freedom of expressing your opinions without fear of retribution. We are almost totally out of the dark ages but we still have some ground to cover.

The problem with your answer is, since it is not a question, you presume to know what the problem isn't and answered that. You attribute human qualities to the Almighty and expect Him to react as a human or as the Roman or Greek pantheon. You first put forth "truth" without proof or fact and then base your logic on that presumption. It also shows your extreme lack of knowledge on the subject of God to assume He cannot be offended by word or even thought. You cannot harm or hurt him or his "feelings", but I would be a little careful about offending his nature by not giving Him what He deserves, respect.

Lets simplify this....
If there is a God, then we will find out in due time exactly how he/she feels about our language etc
If there isn't a God then we never offended that image
However, no matter which is correct .. We have offended ourselves as a human race by choosing such poor characteristic traits
Maybe that's what is wrong with blasphemy?

One of the Ten Commandments is to not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. Profane action toward God is blasphemy. One of the Ten Commandments is to put God first and to not put any other god before Him. You don't know who God is. He is the King of Kings and demands respect from His people and from His creation. He is also God the Father and I don't know about your dad, but my dad demanded respect and so did my mother. So we have a King and a Father and both are God and God demands respect. God deserves respect and worship. He is the Potter and you are the clay. God could make you any way He wanted to make you. He holds your life in His hand and He tells you He is a jealous God. He tells us He gives His glory to no man. He tells us that He dwells within us and His Holy Spirit does. The God I serve is not an impersonal God.

What planet are you from? This is the most twisted logic I have heard in a while.
I would answer but I cannot even think of where to begin. The lack of intelligence and logic in any of your arguments make it impossible to debate.

The Greek term truthfully ability injurious, defamatory, or abusive speech and grow to be used with regard to such speech whether directed against God or against people. (learn Re sixteen:11; Mt 27:39.) The English observe “blasphemy,” besides the shown fact that, is many times constrained to irreverent or abusive speech against God and sacred issues. that's for this reason the antithesis of words of worship directed to the Divine Being persons who with finished wisdom intentionally oppose God and Christ, hide the actuality and propagate falsehoods make themselves in command of sinning against God’s spirit—a sin that isn't be able to be forgiven. it is what specific Pharisees did in the days of Jesus’ earthly ministry. They have been eyewitnesses of the miracles and efficient works of God’s spirit working with the aid of Jesus Christ. yet they refused to glorify Jehovah God. For selfish motives, they attributed to devil the artwork of God with the aid of Christ. in this sort they sinned against God’s spirit.—Matt. 12:24-32.

To Mock or Blasphemy God is one of the worse things you can do. But if you ask God to forgive you and never do it again, you will be ok. Just don't do it. It is a big sin. LOVE instead of hate.

This only reveals that you have no understanding of the nature of God. His name is absolutely holy,as He is holy. You can't hurt His feelings, but when you blaspheme the Holy Name of God, or misuse His name, you just show that you have no regard for Him, that He means nothing to you.

The idea is that God is the truth and anytime you blaspheme you're drawing belivers away or not showing respect.
What hogwash!
If God is such a great idea, he/she/it should be able to stand up as an idea and take what's thrown at it and still survive the next day.
