When are you too old to be "girlfriend" and "boyfriend"? And, as you get older, how is the best way to refer to each other?

Uh..... you can still refer to eachother as boyfriend and girlfriend, its perfectly acceptable.
If you think that sounds too childlike, then just say "friend". It has less meaning, but still conveys that you two are probably sleeping together. Just dont say life-partner(LP), soul-mate, partner, etc... LP makes it sound like you are gay, Soul-Mate sounds cheesy, partner sounds lame like you two are roommates who split the bills, but no boom boom.

They call each other girlfriend or boyfriend, or some may say lady friend or guy friend but usually they are way older than 35 when they use those terms.

Your never to old to be a girlfriend or boyfriend. Besides, after 35 really isn't that old.

Lover, partner, significant other, roommate, friend, wife/husband (who cares it ain't legal if that is how you feel and you aren't attempting to break a law by concealing identity)

this 50 something year old guy at work refers to his girlfriend as his girlfriend. it is kinda funny sounding. just call them your "significant other", "better half," something like that.

I believe the appropriate terminology is "ladyfriend and gentlemanfriend." Hope this helps.

I call him Honey, and tell people he's my boyfriend. Hopefully, soon we'll be saying partner.
