Hi-Pro Chili
2 tbsps oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 cup prepared earthworms***
2 cups cooked kidney beans
2 cups fresh or canned tomatoes
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cumin
2 tsps chopped fresh oregano
1 tbsp chili powder
Saute the onion & garlic in the oil. Remove them from the oil & set aside. Add the ground beef - cook until browned. Add all other ingredients & simmer, covered, over low heat for 1 hour. Serve with crackers, rice or tortillas. Makes 4 servings.
*** Wash the worms, then put them on a wet cornmeal diet for 2 days. Wash them again, then place them in a kettle with enough water to cover & boil for 6 minutes. Dry on a paper towel. Place worms on a cookie sheet & bake in 350 degree oven until worms are crisp, about 10 minutes. Crumble into small bits.

Just to let you know I have never actually tasted this recipe!

First rinse them under clear water, drain most of the water out and put them in some wet cornmeal for a day or so. You need to make sure they empty themselves of anything they might have ingested that could be harmful to you. Rinse the worms, dry them and add them to soup as a healthy protein supplement.

One favored way is to marinate 'em in tequila or scotch for a couple days. After they've marinated, you drink the tequila or scotch and throw away the worms. Jeez, what a question!

I put a few night crawlers in a New England boiled dinner and they added a good texture. Next time I'll add lots of garlic.

"Maguey Worms" or "Tequila Worms" or "Chinicuiles" are typical food in Mexico. You can taste it fried at the heat and you can add lemmon and hot sauce. (Of Morron Chilli)
They are very expensive.

traditionally you fry them. otherwise, you eat em raw. if you bake em, and they're sill alive, i think they'll try to escape.
