Do the sea depths affect the currents of the west and east coastlines?

I am not smarter than a six-grader.

I would think that shallow water is warmer and would tend to not allow deeper colder currents to come near to the shore. I am sure that depth affects the current but it is a bit complicated to know exactly how. I would expect that warmer currents tend to more often be shallow. Cold currents tend to be deeper.

Yes I think it does effect the current but I never learned about that in 6th grade.

Yes, the deeper the water the less strong the aves and current will be. I think.
