I live in Columbia, and I have a 410 number. I tried calling a 301 number, but it says that I need an area access code. Do you know what it is? If so, could you give it to me.

Call your local phone service provider to make sure you have Long Distance enabled. If you don't have a carrier selected you may be able to make LD calls but you're at the mercy of whatever company in the area wants to pick up the call and they may charge you anywhere from $1 to $5 a minute.

With the assumption your trying to call somewhere in or near MD - there is an area code overlay. Which means some area codes have changed within a city. I believe the area code may have changed to 240/227 or 443/667.

The phone you were using did not have long distance enabled, You may have to pay extra for the long distance call. (or it is blocked)

Call the phone company to discuss if it is your phone, your boss if you are calling from a business.
