Yes - its a muscle relaxant and pain killer. The carisoprodol is the muscle relaxer and is usually in 175 & 350mg dosages it also contains Paracetanol which is like asprin or tylenol. The Paracetanol is the pain killer though it's non narcotic. The Paracetanol is normally in 350 & 500mg dosages.

Soma is a muscle relaxer. There is no Paracetamol (Tylenol) or anything else in it unless it is Soma Complex, which has aspirin in it as well. It is a very effective muscle relaxer but is one of the more dangerous and addictive ones because it metabolizes into Meprobomate which is what is in the tranquilizer Miltown and large doses can cause severe CNS depression. This should not stop or scare you from taking it because it is very effective and safe if taken AS PRESCRIBED... so don't take it more often than prescribed or double up on the dose. It really is very good for muscle pain and especially helpful for nighttime pain because it does make you very sleepy.

No....it is a muscle relaxant with a long history of being effective. It's primary mode of action is by blocking nerve transmissions. And yes Soma is one of the primary brand names. Soma Compound Plus contains aspirin and codeine and is a pain reliever.

Another effective muscle tension/relaxant is meprobamate; Miltown or Eqanil. But it works primarily like a tranquilizer.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking carisoprodol?

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to carisoprodol or meprobamate (Equanil, Miltown), or if you have porphyria.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:
- epilepsy or other seizure disorder;
- liver disease; or
- kidney disease.
If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take carisoprodol.
This medication may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Carisoprodol should never be given to another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it.
You may have withdrawal symptoms when you stop using carisoprodol after using it over a long period of time. Withdrawal symptoms include stomach pain, sleep problems, headache, nausea, and seizure (convulsions). Do not stop using this medication suddenly without first talking to your doctor. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely.
This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.
It is not known whether carisoprodol passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Do not give this medication to a child younger than 12 years old..

Soma is not a pain medication but rather a muscle relaxant. Used in conjunction with pain medication, discomfort is more effectively relieved.

I would not not rely on the answers to your question through yahoo answers. The best thing I believe you should do is checkout Web md website. Or consult your physician or ask a pharmicist.
